Thessaloniki Airport “Makedonia” is the main international airport serving the Greek city of Thessaloniki. LGTS Thessaloniki is the third largest airport within the nation of Greece behind Athens and Heraklion (Crete), and as of 2018 served 6.7 million passengers.

FlyTampa seem to have done it again and it should come as no surprise. I harp on texture quality and FT have hit it out of the park here. Ground textures are sharp and realistic, but beyond that they look like they belong in a well used international airport with just the right amount of rubber and dirt.
The modeling is top-notch. As you can see in the screenshots below the off apron areas feature all the right extra vehicles and items you would expect and all are great looking. Also, the terminal building just doesn’t have that high level of detail we have all come to expect from top scenery developers. The attention paid to the parking lots and non-aircraft areas of the airport really push it to a higher level.
The surrounding city looks good and appears like a normal Greek city but as such there aren’t really any major landmarks or anything to model which are beyond normal buildings. However, the terminal at LGTS is a fairly complex piece of architecture and FT have modeled it fantastically both on the apron and parking lot sides of the terminal.
I mentioned the texturing earlier and I would say the team at FlyTampa did a great job, the ground textures are properly colored and really give the impression of a meditteranean climate which can be found around Thessaloniki, which adds to the immersion of flying here.
Thessaloniki at Night:
FlyTampa are an established scenery company and it shows in the night lighting. The apron lighting is fantastic and the airport lights look proper and well placed. I especially appreciated that attention was paid to the non-airport areas such as parking lots when it came to realistic night lighting.
Performance with this scenery was very solid. It is a large, and visually comple scenery but nonetheless I was able to maintain around 30 frames while taxiing, taking off, and landing. My system is not an ideal X-plane machine but with default and add-on aircraft this scenery is definitely optimized enough to work with most machines.
– Thessaloniki Makedonia (LGTS) Airport Addon
– Complete city add-on with custom mesh, vegetation and lighting
– Full city coverage with custom buildings and landmarks
– Sloped airport terrain
– Animated apron vehicles, road and ship traffic
– PBR materials
I have always felt like after I visited the Aegean for the first time a little bit of me was left behind there. As such Greece and the Aegean feature highly in my destinations for flight simulation. LGTS being one of the busiest airports in the region makes a solid scenery a must-have for anyone who enjoys flying in this part of the world.
FlyTampa have hit another one out of the park with one of their first forays into the X-Plane world. Whether you fly in or around Southern Europe or the Aegean, or if you just love a top-level scenery you can’t go wrong with FlyTampa Thessaloniki
To purchase FlyTampa Thessaloniki head to Simmarket, where for $22.30 USD it can be yours.
