Review La Palma X

enclosure 3

La Palma X , Spanish paradise ?

Introduction

Summertime , lots of people go on holiday and in Europe the closest way to paradise are the Canarian Islands. After a short flight you’ll be able to enjoy paradise. The best time for Aerosoft to release their new Scenery “La Palma X”

After add ons for the Belaeren Region ; like Ibiza, Mallorca, the Canarian Islands always stayed in the dark, untill “El Hierro” was released a while ago, but now Aerosoft released La Palma X , developed by Sim-Wings.

The airport is located 8 km from the city Santa Cruz de la Palma at the east side of Palma Island. The ICAO code is GCLA and the IATA is SPC. The airport has an elevation of 33M. Most frequently used by Binter Canarias for connecting flights to Tenerife & Cran Canaria to destinations like Agadir, Funchal and Cape verde islands.

Installation

The download package is about 900 MB in size and once installed it’s takes about 1,3 GB from your flightsim installation. The installer is pretty straight forward and takes no genius. It’s compatible for FSX, FSX Steam version and Prepar3D. For this review I installed the prepar3D version, If you have FTX vector installed be sure to run the auto elevation fixer otherwise you might run into some small issues at the airport gates.

Sim-Wings did a good job on this one in my opinion. They used High Definition ground textures based on aerial pictures with a resoltuion of 25cm/pixel for the airport and 0,5m for the entire island. When booting the first time on the airport I highly recommend to get a GA aircraft and enjoy the amazing scenery. The entire Island has an amazing detaiil from cars and busses on the main roads to small sailboats and cruiseships at the detailed harbours. The City of Santa Cruz and even several lighthouses are all placed on the correct location and with high detail.

The airport

The airport shows alot of likeness like Madeira , it is placed near cliffs and near the high hills of La Palma. This means alot of sheerwinds on approach or in other words lots of fun.

Just like the Island , the airport is from an outstanting quality and every detail is there, from moving airport vehicles to even static ground crew. The oversized parking lot is amazingly almost always empty, Everything is modeled from the firestation to the fuel depot; Take a look at the many screenshots and see for yourself, but beware of your jaw as it may fall.

The nightlighting looks superb as well and blends in very well with Orbx light, flying in at night will not make this approach boring at all. I would recommend flying in at dusk or dawn to have that magical light.

Compatiblity

No issue with any of the ORBX packages that i have, but as stated in the installation secton do run the automatic elavation fixer from FTX vector.

-The gates are AES optimized (only for fsx users) , unfortunate for GSX owners they dont move,

-Compatible with Fsglobal 2010

Performance

No complaints here, although I run a powerfull rig, the FPS never went below 70 PFS at externatl view and never below 40 FPS in the VC of the Airbus extended nor the PMDG 737.

tested on following systemspecs:
I7 5820K overclocked to 4,8 ghz
16 GB memory
2x GTX 980’s in SLI
Windows 8,1 pro x64

Conclusion

Either you’re going on holiday this summer and want to discover the island or you just want a new exciting destination, this add on is a must have.

It’s packed with lots of details, and runs very well on even less powerfull rigs;
I was well surpised by this and Sim-Wings did an outstanding job cant wait for their next development.
